The Lifeboat Operations Manager received a request from MRCC Milford Haven to assist a vessel in difficulty with engine problems at a position approximately 15 miles west of Aberystwyth. New Quay ALB 'Frank & Lena Clifford of Stourbridge' was already on the outer bay mooring so the ILB 'Amy Lea' was launched at 15.20 to enable the crew to board the ALB. Having been given a more precise position for the casualty vessel, much further north than originally calculated, the Coastguard asked for the launch to be cancelled. Pwllheli ALB was asked to assist and the casualty was eventually towed to safety.

ALB 1 - Wednesday 3rd March 2010 - INJURED CREWMAN EVACUATED FROM FISHING VESSEL - New Quay ALB 'Frank & Lena Clifford of Stourbridge' was launched at 12.48 following a request from MRCC Milford Haven to assist the fishing vessel 'Lerina' located 9 miles west of New Quay with an injured crewman. On reaching the vessel, the Coxswain manoeuvred the lifeboat, in very difficult tidal conditions, to enable lifeboat crewmembers to get on board the vessel to give first aid to the crewman who had suffered head and neck injuries. A Sea King Helicopter, 'Rescue 122' from RAF Valley had also been tasked deploying their Winchman to assist. After stabilising the casualty the lifeboat was again manoeuvred alongside and the casualty taken onto the after deck where he was successfully transferred to the helicopter for attention at Ysbyty Gwynedd Bangor. The lifeboat was then again taken alongside the fishing vessel with 2 lifeboat crew being put aboard to assist the skipper in getting his fishing gear lifted and stowed ready to steam back to Fishguard. They discovered that the gear had unfortunately fouled the propeller and rudder making it impossible to make way and after several attempts to clear it the decision was made to tow the vessel south. Towing could only be achieved at very slow speed and following discussions with Cardigan Lifeboat Station, who had both boats on exercise, they brought out 2 divers who quickly cleared the rudder and propeller allowing the 'Lerina' to make way to Fishguard under her own steam. After getting both crewmembers back on board, the lifeboat returned to New Quay onto her outer bay mooring at 20.45 having been at sea for 8 hours. Due to the very high tide, the lifeboat was recovered back into the boathouse at 14.00 the next day .
